WARNING
Never pierce or attempt to open a lithium battery.

WARNING
When batteries have been dropped or damaged, this must always be reported to the local support partner. These batteries should NOT be used anymore.

If a lithium battery – for whatever reason – blows off gas or catches fire in a closed space, the following must be done:

  1. Leave the room immediately. Remove personnel who have inhaled gas to a well-ventilated area or to the open air.
  2. In case of contact with the skin or eyes, rinse immediately and for a long time with running water.
  3. Seek medical attention.
  4. If possible, state the type of lithium battery, see the label on the battery.
  5. Ensure maximum ventilation of the room as soon as possible.
  6. Wait at least one hour before re-entering the area in which the battery exploded or vented gas.
  7. Avoid contact with liquids from the battery.
  8. Wear rubber gloves and eye and mouth protection.
  9. Remove the batteries from the device and dispose of them according to local regulations.

Some types of lithium batteries are under pressure. Even if the battery is discharged, the pressure may still be present. Heating a lithium battery increases the pressure and can cause the battery to explode.

  • Do not allow the temperature of a battery to exceed 50°C.
  • Never throw a battery into a fire.
  • Do not solder a battery.

When a lithium battery is short-circuited or overloaded, the temperature and pressure in the cell – due to the high current – will increase. Some types of lithium batteries have a built-in fuse.

Charging
  • Only use the battery chargers provided by the supplier to charge the batteries.
  • Never use a battery charger that has been modified or is showing signs of damage.
  • Do not place any objects – or batteries other than those supplied by the supplier – in the battery chargers.
  • Batteries should not be charged for more than a continuous period of 16 hours. Unplug the battery charger from the power socket after this period at the latest.
  • Adequate measures must be taken to ensure that the temperature in the room in which the batteries are charged cannot rise

WARNING
Do not use other batteries than those supplied with the system

WARNING
There is a risk of explosion or fire if an incorrect battery is inserted

In addition to the generally applicable safety requirements for storage and transport of the SUIT system, the following additional safety requirements apply to the lithium batteries:

  • Store the batteries in the designated transport boxes.
  • Store the batteries in a cool and well-ventilated area with low humidity.
  • Ensure storage and transport temperatures are between 15°C and 40°C.
The batteries must not be exposed to temperatures outside these values.
The recommended temperature for storing and transporting the batteries is 21°C.
  • Do not store batteries near toxic and corrosive gases.

CAUTION
The minimum temperature for transport and storage may be 0°C if condensation is prevented. This is done by making sure that all parts are completely dry. If the system has been transported outside the operating temperature, the system must be acclimatized for at least 1 hour before being used. The system may be built up, but the power cords must not be connected yet. Open all boxes and hang the smartvests on the Smartvest hanging racks to promote acclimatization.
